Private Venue Ideas For Kids' Birthday Parties

by Heidi Wheeler

While you can hold your child's birthday party at your house, hosting it at a private event venue will make it more memorable while also saving you time and stress. You can let the event staff take care of all of the details while you sit back and enjoy your son or daughter's special day.

One of the benefits of celebrating your kid's birthday at an event space is that you won't have to worry about decorating, making food for a group of picky eaters, and cleaning up after the festivities. You can still work with the venue to select the decorations and menu items you'd like, however. In some cases, onsite catering services may not be offered, and you'll have to bring in outside food, such as the cake.

If the venue is especially popular, make sure to book your child's party as far in advance as you can. If you can't decide between a few different spaces, you can compare event prices online or by speaking to someone on the special events team. Most prices vary according to group size and the type of add-ons you want, such as balloons. You should also inquire as to whether both indoor and outdoor space, such as a garden or patio, is available if that's important to you.

Here are some kid-friendly event venue ideas to get you started:

1. Children's Museums

There's no better place to keep kids entertained throughout the duration of a birthday party than at a children's museum. Since the venue is indoors, it's ideal for the fall and winter months. Most museums offer a private event room, as well as full use of the exhibits.

2. Art Studios

Youngsters can get creative while celebrating your child's birthday at a hands-on art studio. In some cases, you can book the space for an hour or two and have private access to the entire space. Kids can enjoy their cake and ice cream while painting, sculpting, and drawing, and then take their creations home to show off and treasure for years to come.

3. Pizza Parlors

Another kid-approved event venue option is a pizza parlor. You may have to bring in your own cake, but the meal will be taken care of. As an added bonus, look for an eatery that features games, such as a ball pit or an arcade, to keep the party goers entertained.

4. Local or State Park

If your child loves nature, book a private event space at a local or state park. You may be able to rent out an indoor education center, or pavilion-covered picnic tables. Depending on the park, activity options include ranger-led park tours, hiking, and boating.
